2.  The applicant requests award of the Purple Heart.

3.  Records indicate he served on active duty between 4 June 1951 and 5 August 1954.  According to a Western Union Telegram, which is confirmed in a Surgeon General Office file, he was wounded as a result of hostile actions on 
4 July 1952 while in Korea.

CONCLUSIONS:

1.  The evidence confirms the applicant was wounded as a result of hostile action while in Korea.

2.  In view of the foregoing, it would be appropriate to correct the applicant’s records as recommended below.

RECOMMENDATION:

That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by awarding the individual concerned the Purple Heart for wounds sustained as a result of hostile actions on 4 July 1952 while in Korea.
