APPLICANT REQUESTS: That her military records be corrected to reflect that she was awarded the Marksman Badge for the M-16 rifle.

APPLICANT STATES: That she believes she qualified for the Marksman Badge following completion of basic training. She contends that her record may not reflect the badge because she qualified only after refiring the qualification course.

EVIDENCE OF RECORD: The applicant's military records show:

She enlisted in the Regular Army on 5 May 1994 and was discharged after 3 months and 22 days of service for failure to meet procurement medical fitness standards.

Her record shows that she failed to qualify with the M-16 rifle on 15 June 1994. There is no entry on her qualification record or documentation in the file to indicate that she subsequently completed the rifle qualification course and was awarded the Marksman Badge.

DISCUSSION: Considering all the evidence, allegations, and information presented by the applicant, together with the evidence of record, applicable law and regulations, it is concluded:

1. There is no evidence in her military records to show that she successfully completed the rifle qualification course and was awarded the Marksman Badge with rifle bar.

2. In view of the foregoing, there appears to be no basis for granting the applicant’s request.

DETERMINATION: The applicant has failed to submit sufficient relevant evidence to demonstrate the existence of probable error or injustice.

NOTE: The applicant’s record does reflect that she was awarded the National Defense Service Medal (NDSM) which does not appear on her DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge. Therefore, the Commander, US Army Reserve Personnel Center will be requested to issue a correction to her DD Form 214 showing that she was awarded the NDSM.

BOARD VOTE:

                       GRANT

                       GRANT FORMAL HEARING

                       DENY APPLICATION
