RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS
AIR FORCE BOARD FOR CORRECTION OF MILITARY RECORDS
IN THE MATTER OF: DOCKET NUMBER: BC-2003-04081
INDEX CODE: 110.01
COUNSEL: NONE
HEARING DESIRED: NO
_________________________________________________________________
APPLICANT REQUESTS THAT:
Her date of separation (DOS) be adjusted to give her four years of
creditable military service.
_________________________________________________________________
APPLICANT CONTENDS THAT:
She was discharged one day earlier than her Expiration of Term of
Service (ETS) leaving her one-day shy of four years.
Applicant’s complete submission is at Exhibit A.
_________________________________________________________________
STATEMENT OF FACTS:
Applicant enlisted in the Regular Air Force on 5 February 1980 and was
honorably discharged as a sergeant (Sgt/E-4) on 3 February 1984. Her
DD form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty,
originally gave her 3 years, 11 months, and 30 days of service. It
has since been corrected to read 3 years, 11 months, and 29 days.
_________________________________________________________________
AIR FORCE EVALUATION:
AFPC/DPPRS recommends denial. DPPRS notes that members may ask for
separation on the last workday before the ETS if the ETS falls on a
weekend or holiday. This day would be the member’s DOS. Members who
do not ask for an ETS on the last workday before the ETS will be
separated on their ETS. DPPRS has no documentation to indicate if the
applicant requested separation on the last workday before her ETS.
Therefore, DPPRS states the discharge was consistent with the
procedural and substantive requirements of the discharge regulation
and within the discretionary powers of the discharge authority. No
new evidence or any identification of error or injustice has been
presented to warrant a change to her ETS.
DPPRS’s complete evaluation is at Exhibit C.

APPLICANT'S REVIEW OF AIR FORCE EVALUATION:
A copy of the Air Force evaluation was forwarded to the applicant on
30 January 2004 for review and comment within 30 days. As of this
date, no response has been received by this office.
_________________________________________________________________
THE BOARD CONCLUDES THAT:
1. The applicant has exhausted all remedies provided by existing law
or regulations.
2. The application was timely filed.
3. Sufficient relevant evidence has been presented to demonstrate the
existence of error or injustice. We note that members may ask for
separation on the last workday before the expiration of term of
service (ETS), if the ETS falls on Saturday, Sunday, or a holiday.
Member’s who do not ask for ETS separation on the last workday before
their ETS, will be separated on their ETS. While there is no
documentation to indicate if applicant requested separation on the
last workday before her ETS, in order to preclude a possible
injustice, we recommend that the records be corrected as indicated
below.
______________________________________________________________
THE BOARD RECOMMENDS THAT:
The pertinent military records of the Department of the Air Force
relating to APPLICANT be corrected to show that she was not discharged
from the Air Force on 3 February 1984, but was continued on active
duty until 4 February 1984, on which date she was discharged and
credited with four years of active duty service.

At the time she was released, she took her end of course exams twice and failed both times due to working 12 hour days and suffering a miscarriage. We took notice of the applicant's complete submission in judging the merits of the case, however, we agree with the opinion and recommendation of the Air Force offices of primary responsibility and adopt their rationale as the basis for our conclusion that the applicant has not been the victim of an error or injustice. ...
The reason for the request was that on 22 June 1987, the member waived his right to a hearing before an administrative discharge board with the understanding that he would receive no less than a general discharge. Subsequently, the applicant was discharged under the provisions of AFR 39-10 paragraph 5-46, for misconduct based on minor disciplinary infractions and received a general (under honorable conditions) discharge. After careful consideration of the applicant’s request and the...
