This is in reference to your application for correction of your
naval record pursuant to the provisions of Title 10, United
States Code, Section 1552.

You enlisted in the Navy on 23 March 1965 at the age of 19.
November 1966, following an 18 day period of unauthorized absence
(UA), you were hospitalized for attempted suicide. On 12
December 1966 you were convicted by special court-martial (SPCM)
of the foregoing period of UA and were sentenced to hard labor
for one month and a $50 forfeiture of pay.

UA totalling 87 days and escape.

The Board, in its review of your entire record and application,
carefully weighed all potentially mitigating factors, such as
your youth and immaturity,

and contention were not sufficient to warrant recharacterization
of your discharge because of your repetitive and lengthy periods
of UA.
