		IN THE CASE OF:

		BOARD DATE: 7 November 2013

		DOCKET NUMBER: AR20130017474

THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant requests removal of an Air Force Commendation Medal Certificate, dated 10 July 2013, from his Army Military Human Resource Record (AMHRR).

2. The applicant states he received an Air Force Commendation Medal on 10 July 2013 for his service while deployed. The original award citation reads "Outstanding Achievement 28 June 2912 to 1 November 2012." The award citation should read "Outstanding Achievement 28 June 2012 to 1 November 2012." The certificate has been corrected by the USAF and he would like the old certificate removed from his AMHRR and replaced by the new certificate.

3. The applicant provides two Air Force Commendation Medal Certificates.

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant is currently a Regular Army master sergeant assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Fort Campbell, KY. He served in Afghanistan from 27 June to 1 November 2012 while assigned to the Combined Joint Special Operations Air Component.

2. The applicant provides and his records contain an Air Force Commendation Medal Certificate, dated 10 July 2013, showing Special Order G-33791 awarded him the Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding achievement during the period 28 June 2912 to 1 November 2012.

3. The applicant provides and his records contain an Air Force Commendation Medal Certificate, dated 26 August 2013, showing Special Order G-33791 awarded him the Air Force Commendation Medal for outstanding achievement during the period 28 June 2012 to 1 November 2012.

4. Army Regulation 600-8-104 (Army Military Human Resource Records Management) governs the composition of the AMHRR and states the performance folder is used for filing performance, commendatory, and disciplinary data. Once placed in the AMHRR, the document becomes a permanent part of that file. The document will not be removed from or moved to another part of the AMHRR unless directed by certain agencies, to include this Board.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

The evidence of record confirms the applicant was issued an Air Force Commendation Medal Certificate that listed an incorrect year. A subsequent Air Force Commendation Medal Certificate corrected this error. However, the original certificate with the erroneous date was never revoked and remains in his AMHRR. Therefore, it would be appropriate to correct his records by removing the original certificate.

BOARD VOTE:

BOARD DETERMINATION/RECOMMENDATION:

The Board determined the evidence presented is sufficient to warrant a recommendation for relief. As a result, the Board recommends that all Department of the Army records of the individual concerned be corrected by:

* removing Air Force Commendation Medal Certificate, dated 10 July 2013, from his AMHRR

* ensuring the Air Force Commendation Medal Certificate, dated 10 July 2013, he submitted with his application is not filed in his AMHRR
