THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1.  Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

2.  Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).


THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1.  The applicant requests, in effect, reconsideration of his previous request for correction of his DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge) to show he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

2.  The applicant states the attached evidence should suffice to amend his DD Form 214 to show he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

3.  The applicant provides copies of General Orders Number 4577, dated 12 May 1969 and this Board's previous decision, dated 18 July 2013.

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1.  Incorporated herein by reference are military records which were summarized in the previous consideration of the applicant's case by the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR) in Docket Number AR20120023018 on 18 July 2013.

2.  The applicant provides new evidence which warrants reconsideration.

3.  The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 13 July 1967.  He completed training as a helicopter repairman.  He arrived in Vietnam on 21 July 1968 and he was assigned to Company A, 5th Transportation Battalion, 101st Airborne Division.

4.  The applicant provides a copy of Headquarters, 101st Airborne Division General Orders Number 4577, dated 12 May 1969.  These orders show he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in connection with ground operations against a hostile force for the period 1 August 1968 to 31 March 1969.

5.  The applicant departed Vietnam on 20 July 1969.  He was honorably released from active duty on 10 July 1970.

6.  His DD Form 214 shows the following awards:

* National Defense Service Medal
* Two Overseas Service Bars
* Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze service stars
* Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (1960)
* Sharpshooter Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar (M-14)
* Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar( M-16)
* Army Commendation Medal
* Good Conduct Medal (First Award)
* Aircraft Crewman Badge

7.  Department of the Army Pamphlet 672-3 (Unit Citation and Campaign Participation Credit Register) lists the unit awards received by units serving in Vietnam.  This pamphlet shows the unit to which the applicant was assigned was cited for the following award:

	a.  The Meritorious Unit Commendation for the period 1 November 1968 to 
31 May 1969 by Department of the Army General Order (DAGO) Number 39, dated 1970.

	b.  The Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation for the period 20 October 1968 to 14 May 1969 by DAGO Number 43, dated 1970.

	c.  The Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal First Class Unit Citation for the period 1 July 1968 to 2 may 1970 by DAGO Number 48, dated 1971.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

1.  He provides new evidence consisting of Headquarters, 101st Airborne Division General Orders Number 4577 awarding him the Bronze Star Medal.  This award should be added on his DD Form 214.

2.  He is also authorized the following awards that should be added on his DD Form 214:

* Meritorious Unit Commendation
* Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation
* Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal First Class Unit Citation

BOARD DETERMINATION/RECOMMENDATION:

The Board determined that the evidence presented was sufficient to warrant amendment of the ABCMR’s decision in Docket Number AR20120023018, dated 18 July 2013.  As a result, the Board recommends that all Department of the Army records of the individual concerned be corrected by amending his DD Form 214 to add the following awards:

* Bronze Star Medal
* Meritorious Unit Commendation
* Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation
* Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal First Class Unit Citation
