THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests reconsideration of his earlier request to correct his
DD Form 214 to show his social security number (SSN) as recorded on his social Security Card.
2. The applicant states that when the Army recruiter asked him for his SSN, he told the recruiter he had lost it and did not remember it. The recruiter told him he knew someone at the Social Security Office and would get the number for him. The recruiter told the applicant what his number was and the applicant then signed the enlistment papers. He continued to believe that the recruiter gave him the correct SSN. It was not until after he was out of the Army and submitted his taxes that he discovered he was not using the SSN he had first received in 1973. He tried through different sources to correct this problem without success. He needs this problem to be addressed because it is costing him benefits.
3. The applicant has further offered information indicating he is dying from cancer and is getting his affairs in order.
4. The applicant provides a copy of the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR) Record of Proceedings (ROP), dated 20 June 2013.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. Incorporated herein by reference are military records which were summarized in the previous consideration of the applicant's case by the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR) in Docket Number AR 20120021407 dated 20 June 2013.
2. The applicant argues that that the Army Recruiter gave him an SSN which he used until after he left military service. This argument must be considered by the Board as new evidence.
3. The original ROP states that the evidence of record shows the applicant enlisted with and consistently used an SSN during his military service that he now claims to be incorrect. The Board concluded that it would not be in the interest of the Army to change its records because the applicant had not provided a compelling reason to do so. Accordingly, it denied the applicant's request.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
1. The applicant contends that his DD Form 214 should be corrected to show his SSN as recorded on his social Security Card.
2. The applicant has not provided any compelling documentation showing that he is suffering the loss of any benefits as a result of the Army maintaining the accuracy of its records.
3. The applicant is again advised that a copy of the original decisional document as well as these proceedings will be placed in his military records to serve as clarification concerning any possible confusion regarding the difference in his SSN.
4. In view of the above, the applicant's request should be denied.
