		IN THE CASE OF:

		BOARD DATE: 26 November 2014

		DOCKET NUMBER: AR20130005687

THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant requests reconsideration of his earlier request for correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show the Bronze Star Medal.

2. The applicant states his DD Form 214 does not reflect his Bronze Star Medal.

3. The applicant provides copies of the general orders, certificate, and citation showing he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1. Incorporated herein by reference are military records which were summarized in the previous consideration of the applicant's case by the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR) in Docket Number AR20090012810 on 12 January 2010.

2. The applicant provides the general orders, certificate, and citation showing he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal which were not previously considered. Therefore, this is new evidence and as such warrants consideration by the Board.

3. The previous Record of Proceedings noted:

	a. The applicant was inducted into the Army of the United States on
6 December 1967. He completed training and was awarded military occupational specialty 11B (Light Weapons Infantryman).

	b. The applicant's DA Form 20 (Enlisted Qualification Record) shows in item 41 (Awards and Decorations) the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (1960), Combat Infantryman Badge, two Overseas Service Bars, and Sharpshooter Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar.

	c. The applicant's DD Form 214 shows he was honorably released from active duty on 10 July 1969. He had completed 1 year, 7 months, and 5 days of net active service, and 1 year, 1 month, and 6 days of foreign service. Item 24 (Decorations, Medals, Badges, Commendations, Citations, and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized) shows the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter Marksmanship Qualification Badge with (M-14) Rifle Bar, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with (M-16) Rifle Bar, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and two Overseas Service Bars. The previous Board
added the Purple Heart and otherwise updated his awards.

d Review of the Awards and Decorations Computer-Assisted Retrieval System (ADCARS), an index of general orders issued during the Vietnam era between 1965 and 1973 maintained by the Military Awards Branch of the United States Army Human Resources Command (USA HRC), failed to reveal any orders showing the applicant was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

4. Headquarters, 101st Airborne Division General Orders Number 2286, dated
13 March 1969, awarded the applicant the Bronze Star Medal.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

1. General orders awarded him the Bronze Star Medal which is not shown on his DD Form 214.

2. His DD Form 214 should be corrected to show this award.
