THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

2. The applicant states he didn't know the requirements for this award when his retirement DD Form 214 was being drafted.

3. The applicant provides copies of orders assigning him to and from Korea.

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant, a career Soldier, served in the Regular Army in an enlisted status from 1990 to 2003, when he became a warrant officer.

2. Orders, dated 13 September 1993, assigned him to the 2nd Military Police Detachment, Camp Red Cloud, Uijongbu, Korea.

3. Orders, dated 12 October 1994, assigned him from Korea to the Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Fort Bragg, NC.

4. He retired as a chief warrant officer three in 2011. Neither his 17 September 2003 DD Form 214 issued at the end of his enlisted service nor the 30 September 2011 DD Form 214 issued upon his retirement list the Korea Defense Service Medal as an authorized award.

5. Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) states the Korea Defense Service Medal was authorized by the National Defense Authorization Act of 2003 for award to members of the Armed Forces of the United States who have served on active duty in support of the defense of the Republic of Korea. The period of eligibility is 28 July 1954 to a date to be determined by the Secretary of Defense.
