		IN THE CASE OF:

		BOARD DATE:  15 March 2012

		DOCKET NUMBER:  AR20110018529

THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant requests correction of item 12b (Separation Date This Period) of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show the year 2011, not 2010.

2.  The applicant states:

* the year should be 2011
* he left Iraq on 3 April 2011
* he was released from active duty on 24 May 2011

3. The applicant provides his DD Form 214.

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant was ordered to active duty from the Army National Guard on 16 April 2010 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served as a wheeled vehicle mechanic in Iraq from 10 June 2010 to 3 April 2011. He was released from active duty on 24 May 2011.

2. His DD Form 214 shows in:

* item 12a (Date Entered Active Duty This Period) the entry "2010  04  16" (16 April 2010)
* item 12b the entry "2010  05  24" (24 May 2010)
* item 12c (Net Active Service This Period) that he completed 1 year, 1 month, and 9 days
* item 18 (Remarks) that he served in Iraq from 10 June 2010 to 3 April 2011

3. Records from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) confirm he was released from active duty on 24 May 2011.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

1. The applicant contends he was released from active duty on 24 May 2011 and item 12b of his DD Form 214 is incorrect.

2. DFAS records which confirm he was released from active duty on 24 May 2011 are accepted as sufficient evidence on which to amend item 12b of his DD Form 214 to show he was released from active duty on 24 May 2011.
