BOARD DATE: 26 January 2012
DOCKET NUMBER: AR20110015406
THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:
1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).
2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).
THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests that his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) be corrected to reflect his correct amount of foreign service in block 12f.
2. The applicant states that his DD Form 214 does not reflect his foreign service in Afghanistan and he believes his total foreign service is 5 years and 9 months.
3. The applicant provides a copy of his DD Form 214 and a copy of his Officer Record Brief (ORB).
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant was commissioned as a United States Army Reserve (USAR) second lieutenant on 20 May 1988. He was ordered to active duty on 26 November 1989 and served continuously as a commissioned officer. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel on 30 September 2006.
2. The applicant served 49 months in Germany which included deployments of 9 months in Bosnia and 5 months in Hungary. He also served 7 months in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for a total of 4 years, 7 months and 5 days of foreign service.
3. The applicant also served in Afghanistan from 20070223 20080309 for a total of 1 year and 17 days of foreign service.
4. On 30 September 2010 he was honorably released from active duty (REFRAD) and was transferred to the Retired List effective 1 October 2010. He had served 20 years, 10 months and 26 days of active service. His DD Form 214 issued at the time of his REFRAD shows that he served 4 years, 7 months and 5 days of foreign service.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
1. The applicants contention that his DD Form 214 does not reflect all of his foreign service has been noted and found to have merit.
2. In addition to the 4 years, 7 months and 5 days of foreign service he served in Germany and Cuba, the applicant also served 1 year and 17 days of foreign service in Afghanistan, which is not reflected on his DD Form 214.
3. Accordingly, his DD Form 214 should be corrected to show in block 12f of his DD Form 214 that he served 5 years, 7 months and 22 days of foreign service.
