IN THE CASE OF:
BOARD DATE: 15 November 2011
DOCKET NUMBER: AR20110006155
THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:
1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).
2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).
THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests his Social Security Number (SSN) be corrected from **1-**-**** to **6-**-****.
2. The applicant states a typographical error was made.
3. The applicant provides excerpts from his military records and documents reflecting the SSN he is currently using.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. Title 10, U.S. Code, section 1552(b), provides that applications for correction of military records must be filed within 3 years after discovery of the alleged error or injustice. This provision of law also allows the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR) to excuse an applicants failure to timely file within the 3-year statute of limitations if the ABCMR determines it would be in the interest of justice to do so. While it appears the applicant did not file within the time frame provided in the statute of limitations, the ABCMR has elected to conduct a substantive review of this case and, only to the extent relief, if any, is granted, has determined it is in the interest of justice to excuse the applicants failure to timely file. In all other respects, there are insufficient bases to waive the statute of limitations for timely filing.
2. The applicants military records show that he enlisted in the Regular Army on 14 October 1963, was awarded the military occupational specialty of light weapons infantryman, and was promoted to pay grade E-3.
3. He was honorably released from active duty on 13 October 1965. The DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge) and discharge certificate he was issued shows his SSN as **1-**-****.
4. The few documents in the applicant's records which show his SSN (a Service Number was used at the time) show his SSN as **6-**-****.
5. The applicant has submitted his SSN card, his driver's license, and his Medicare card which all show his SSN as **6-**-****.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
It is abundantly clear that a typographical error was made on the applicant's DD Form 214 and discharge certificate and it would now be proper and just to correct those errors.
BOARD VOTE:

IN THE CASE OF: BOARD DATE: 20 December 2011 DOCKET NUMBER: AR20110012995 THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE: 1. It appears that during the preparation of the applicant's DD Form 214 a typographical error occurred resulting in his SSN being recorded as x7x-xx-xxxx instead of the SSN as shown on his Social Security card. Therefore, it would be at this time to correct the applicant's DD Form 214 to show the SSN as shown on his Social Security card.

Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). He served in Vietnam during the period 17 August 1970 to 25 February 1972 and his DD Form 214 shows only 6 months and 9 days of foreign service. His military records show he enlisted in the Regular Army on 16 February 1970.
ARMY | BCMR | CY2013 | 20130001265
The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Report of Separation from Active Duty) to show his social security number (SSN) as "453-XX-XXXX" instead of "435-XX-XXXX." The applicant's SSN appears as "453-XX-XXXX" on his DD Form 4 which was completed upon his enlistment. Therefore, it would be appropriate at this time to correct his DD Form 214 to show his SSN as shown on his social security card.
ARMY | BCMR | CY2009 | 20090008673
The applicant requests that the ninth digit of his social security number (SSN) in item 32 (Remarks) of his DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge) be corrected to show "4" instead of "8." This provision of law also allows the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR) to excuse an applicant's failure to timely file within the 3-year statute of limitations if the ABCMR determines it would be in the interest of justice to do so. Therefore,...

The applicant requests, in effect, correction of the social security number (SSN) listed on his DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge). The regulation in effect at the time of the applicant's separation stated the DA Form 20 and documents on file in the Military Personnel Records Jacket were the primary sources for information for entries on the DD Form 214. The evidence of record confirms the applicant entered active duty and served under an SSN of...

Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). The applicant states his SSN is incorrect on his DD Form 214 and he needs it corrected. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: The applicant's DD Form 214 contains a typographical error in that it records the first three digits of his SSN as "462" not "465" as shown in his military record.
ARMY | BCMR | CY2011 | 20110011816
The applicant requests correction of item 3 (Social Security Number (SSN)) of his DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge). The applicant states: * his SSN is wrong on his DD Form 214 * his SSN is "4XX-6X-3XXX" not "4XX-3X-8XXX" 3. As a result, the Board recommends that all Department of the Army records of the individual concerned be corrected by amending item 3 of his DD Form 214 to list his SSN as it is shown on his Social Security card.
