THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests the entry in item 2 (Department, Component and Branch) of her DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) with a separation date of 19 August 2003 be corrected to show her component as U.S. Army Reserve (USAR).
2. The applicant states she has never been assigned to an Army National Guard (ARNG) unit.
3. The applicant provides copies of her:
* DD Form 4 (Enlistment/Reenlistment Document Armed Forces of the United States)
* orders to initial active duty for training
* two sets of orders showing her assignments in the USAR
* her marriage certificate
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant's official military personnel file (OMPF) in iPERMS (integrated Personnel Electronic Records Management System) contains a DD Form 4, dated 17 October 2002. The form shows the applicant enlisted in the USAR on 17 October 2002 for a period of 8 years.
2. Department of Defense, Military Entrance Processing Station, Dallas, TX Orders 194-15, dated 19 October 2002, ordered the applicant to initial active duty for training. She was to report to Fort Jackson, SC on 4 February 2003 and to her advanced individual training on 21 April 2003 at the U.S. Army Intelligence Center and School, Fort Huachuca, AZ.
3. The applicant was released from active duty on 19 August 2003 and was awarded the military occupational specialty 96B (Intelligence Analyst). She had completed 6 months and 15 days of active service that was characterized as honorable. Item 2 of her DD Form 214 contains the entry "ARMY/ARNG."
4. On 2 June 2010, the applicant enlisted in the Regular Army (RA) for a period
of 4 years.
5. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) states the entry for item 2 of the DD Form 214 consists of the RA, ARNGUS (Army National Guard of the United States), or USAR.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
1. The applicant contends item 2 on her DD Form 214 should be changed to show she was in the USAR and not the ARNG.
2. There is no evidence the applicant was ever a member of the ARNG. Her records show she enlisted in the USAR on 17 October 2002 and reported for her initial active duty for training on 5 February 2003.
3. Therefore, the entry in item 2 of the applicant's DD Form 214 with an effective date of separation of 19 August 2003 should read ARMY/USAR.
