THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1.  Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

2.  Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).


THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1.  The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show award of the Meritorious Unit Commendation.

2.  The applicant states the award was approved after his discharge.

3.  The applicant provides a copy of his DD Form 214, dated 9 January 2010; a copy of the award recommendation approval, dated 29 October 2009; and a copy of the 772nd Medical Detachment Modified Table of Organization and Equipment, dated 8 September 2009, in support of his request.

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1.  Having had prior service in the Army National Guard, the applicant's records show he enlisted in the Regular Army on 26 June 2006 and held military occupational specialty 68W (Health Care Specialist).  His records also show he served in Afghanistan from 7 July 2008 to 18 September 2009.  He was assigned to the 722nd Medical Detachment.

2.  He was honorably released from active duty on 9 January 2010 and he was transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve Control Group (Reinforcement) for completion of his Reserve obligation.

3.  Item 13 (Decorations, Medals, Badges, Citations, and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized) of his DD Form 214 shows the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with a bronze service star, Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal, and Air Assault Badge.

4.  Permanent Orders 322-08 issued by the U.S. Army Human Resources Command on 18 November 2009 awarded the 772nd Medical Detachment the Meritorious Unit Commendation for exceptionally meritorious service from 10 July 2008 to 23 September 2008.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

Permanent orders awarded his unit of assignment in Afghanistan the Meritorious Unit Commendation which is not shown on his DD Form 214.  Therefore, he is entitled to correction of his DD Form 214 to show this unit award.
