THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show he completed Level III of the Modern Army Combatives Program.
2. The applicant states that he completed this training and feels it should be listed on his DD Form 214.
3. The applicant provides, in support of his application, copies of his DD Form 214 and a certificate of training for the Level III of the Modern Army Combatives Program.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. On 30 July 2003, the applicant enlisted in the Regular Army. He completed his initial training and was awarded military occupational specialty 11B (Infantryman).
2. The certificate of training provided by the applicant indicates that he completed 160 hours of the Modern Army Combatives Program during the period from 26 March to 20 April 2007.
3. The United States Army Combatives School is located at Fort Benning, Georgia. The school teaches four instructor certification courses. Students are taught combative techniques through a regimen focused on small, easily repeatable drills. The purpose of the program is to educate Soldiers on how to protect themselves against threats without using their firearms; to provide a non-lethal response to situations on the battlefield; and to instill the "warrior instinct" to provide the necessary aggression to meet the enemy unflinchingly. The course is designed for Soldiers going into combat.
4. On 21 May 2009, the applicant was released from active duty and transferred to the United States Army Reserve Control Group (Reinforcement). He had attained the rank of sergeant, pay grade E-5, and had completed 5 years,
9 months, and 21 days of creditable active duty service.
5. Item 14 (Military Education) of the applicant's DD Form 214 indicates he completed the Primary Leadership Development Course in 2007. It does not list Level III three of the Modern Army Combatives Program.
6. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) provides detailed instructions for completing separation documents, including the DD Form 214. It is a summary of a Soldier's most recent period of continuous active duty. It provides a brief, clear-cut record of active duty service at the time of release from active duty, retirement, or discharge. Entries in Item 14 are to assist the Soldier in job placement and counseling; therefore, training courses for combat skills are not to be listed.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
1. The applicant contends that his DD Form 214 should be corrected to show completion of Level III three of the Modern Army Combatives Program.
2. The Modern Army Combatives Program is a series of combat training courses. As such, it is not to be listed on the DD Form 214.
3. In view of the above, the applicant's request should be denied.
