	IN THE CASE OF:

	BOARD DATE: 10 July 2008

	DOCKET NUMBER: AR20080006001

THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).

CONSIDERATION OF ADDITIONAL EVIDENCE:

1. On 8 March 2008, the applicant readdressed the issue of his name in regard to the decision of the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR) in Docket Number AR20070009286, dated 20 December 2007.

2. The evidence submitted is essentially the same as was submitted with the original case.

ADDITIONAL DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

1. The ABCMR's decision in Docket Number AR20070009286 failed to address the issue of the applicant’s name having been incorrectly entered on the citation and certificate for award of the Air Medal.

2. The applicant was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement while participating in sustained aerial flight in support of combat ground forces in the Republic of Vietnam during the period from 8 December 1964 to 14 January 1965. The applicant’s first name was incorrectly entered on the citation for this award.

3. The applicant subsequently received an undesirable discharge characterized as under other than honorable conditions. As noted in the original case, Army Regulation 600-8-22 provides that it would be inappropriate to correct this award citation and to make an award presentation to the applicant.

4. In view of the above, the applicant’s request should be denied.
BOARD VOTE:

________ ________ ________ GRANT FULL RELIEF

________ ________ ________ GRANT PARTIAL RELIEF

________ ________ ________ GRANT FORMAL HEARING

BOARD DETERMINATION/RECOMMENDATION:

The Board determined that the evidence presented was insufficient to warrant amendment of the decision of the Army Board for Correction of Military Records set forth in Docket Number AR20070009286, dated 20 December 2007, to add that the applicant’s name should be corrected on the citation for award of the Air Medal.
