		IN THE CASE OF:

		BOARD DATE: 26 August 2008

		DOCKET NUMBER: AR20080004572

THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any).

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1. The applicant requests reconsideration of his earlier request for correction of his DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge) to show award of the Air Medal.

2. The applicant states, in effect, that his records should be corrected to show award of the Air Medal.

3. The applicant provides general orders for award of the Air Medal, dated 25 January 1969.

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1. Incorporated herein by reference are military records which were summarized in the previous consideration of the applicant's case by the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR) in Docket Number AR20070009594 on 29 November 2007.

2. The applicant has provided new evidence that will be considered by the Board.

3. The applicant was inducted into the Army of the United States on 21 June 1967. He served in Vietnam from 9 December 1967 to 8 December 1968. His highest grade held was specialist four.

4. The applicant provided Headquarters, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) General Orders Number 1018, dated 25 January 1969, which show he was awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight in the Republic of Vietnam from December 1967 to December 1968.

5. The applicant was released from active duty on 20 February 1970. His DD Form 214 does not show he was awarded the Air Medal.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

General orders show the applicant was awarded the Air Medal; therefore, this award should be added to his DD Form 214.

There are no orders for a second award of the Air Medal in the available records. Headquarters, 173d Airborne Brigade General Order Number 1738, dated 7 July 1969, show the applicant received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in conjunction with military operations against a hostile force for the period October 1967 to July 1969. Since there are no orders for a second award of the Air Medal, there is insufficient evidence on which to base a second award of the Air Medal.
