The Board considered the following evidence:

if any).
THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests that item 12a (Date Entered AD This Period) of
his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) for
the period ending 31 July 2006 be corrected.
2. The applicant states he entered the Army on 1 March 1989. He was in
the Navy from 26 July 1983 until 25 March 1986. He was also in the Naval
Reserve from 26 July 1986 until 28 February 1989.
3. The applicant provides one DD Form 214 for the period ending 25 July
1986 and one DD Form 214 for the period ending 31 July 2006.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. After having had prior inactive service, the applicant entered active
duty with the Navy on 26 July 1983. He was released from active duty on 25
July 1986 after completing 3 years of creditable active service and was
transferred to the Naval Reserve Personnel Center, New Orleans, LA.
2. In a DA Form 4187 (Personnel Action), dated 10 November 1988, the
applicant requested enlistment in the Regular Army. He indicated on the DA
Form 4187 that he understood he must continue to perform satisfactorily all
required training with his unit up to 7 days prior to his enlistment in the
Regular Army. His commander at the Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, FL
approved his request.
3. The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 1 March 1989.
4. On 31 July 2006, the applicant was released from active duty for the
purpose of retirement. Item 12a of his DD Form 214 for the period ending
31 July 2006 shows he entered active duty that period on 12 December 1982.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
Item 12a of the applicant’s DD Form 214 for the period ending 31 July 2006
erroneously shows he entered active duty that period on 12 December 1982.
As he contended, the evidence of record shows he was in the Naval Reserve
prior to his 1 March 1989 enlistment in the Regular Army.

BOARD DETERMINATION/RECOMMENDATION:
The Board determined that the evidence presented was sufficient to warrant
a recommendation for relief. As a result, the Board recommends that the DD
Form 214 for the period ending 31 July 2006 of the individual concerned be
corrected by amending item 12a to show he entered active duty on 1 March
1989.
