The Board considered the following evidence:
Exhibit A - Application for correction of military records.
Exhibit B - Military Personnel Records (including advisory opinion,
if any).
THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:
1. The applicant requests, in effect, that the entry shown in Item 20a his
enlistment contract (DD Form 4/3) be corrected to show 1 year and 30 weeks
instead of 4 years and 00 weeks.
2. The applicant states, in effect, that he enlisted in the Army for 1
year and 30 weeks and that the term of enlistment shown on his enlistment
contract should be corrected to reflect that change.
3. The applicant provides the following documents in support of his
request: Statement of Understanding, dated 3 May 2004; Headquarters,
United States Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) Liaison Memorandum dated
12 September 2005, Subject: Correction of Enlistment Term; Statement for
Enlistment (DA Form 3286-63; Enlistment/Reenlistment Document
(DD Form 4/1 (page 1) and 4/3 (page 3)) dated 4 February 2004; and USAREC
Message Number 04-40, Subject: Implementation Plan for United States Army
15 Month plus Training Enlistment Option in Support of National Service.
CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:
1. Page one of the applicant's enlistment contract (DD Form 4/1) shows he
enlisted in the Regular Army (RA) for a period of 1 year and 30 weeks on
4 February 2004. Page 3 of that same document (DD Form 4/3) shows he
enlisted in the RA for 4 years and 00 weeks.
2. The Statement of Enlistment prepared during the enlistment process also
shows that the applicant enlisted in the RA for a term of 1 year and 30
weeks.
3. The USAREC Liaison Memorandum, dated 12 September 2005, confirms that
Item 20a shown on page 3 of the enlistment contract is incorrect and the
term of his enlistment should be corrected to reflect his term of
enlistment as 1 year and 30 weeks.
4. The applicant provides a statement of understanding, dated 3 May 2004,
which states that he understands the options under his enlistment contract
and that he is submitting this application without coercion and that it is
strictly for his benefit.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:
1. The evidence of record shows that an error was made during the
preparation of the applicant’s enlistment contract, which resulted in an
incorrect term of service being shown in Item 20a of his DD Form 4/3.
2. The applicant's DD Form 4/3 erroneously shows his term of enlistment as
4 years and 00 weeks. The Memorandum from USAREC dated 12 September 2005,
confirms that the DD Form 4/3 is incorrect and should be corrected to
reflect his term of enlistment as 1 year and 30 weeks.

BOARD DETERMINATION/RECOMMENDATION:
The Board determined that the evidence presented was sufficient to warrant
a recommendation for relief. As a result, the Board recommends that all
Department of the Army records of the individual concerned be corrected by
amending his enlistment contract (DD Form 4/3) to show that he enlisted in
the Regular Army for 1 year and 30 weeks, instead of 4 years and 00 weeks
as is currently shown.
