2. The applicant requests that his records be corrected to show he was assigned to Company A, 819th Aviation Engineer Battalion.
3. The applicant states that he was assigned to Company A, not Company C, the whole time he was in the Army (from 19 February 1942 to 10 October 1945). He has lots of old V-mails which show he was in Company A. He provides three of them as supporting evidence.
4. The applicant’s military records were presumably lost or destroyed in the National Personnel Records Center fire in 1973. Information contained herein was obtained from alternate sources, including the provided V-mails and the applicant's Honorable Discharge Certificate.
5. One V-mail provided by the applicant is dated, "12th July (year unknown), England." His unit is shown as Company A, 819th Engineer Aviation Battalion.
6. The second V-mail provided by the applicant is dated, "March 3rd (presumably 1945), France." His unit is shown as Company A, 819th Engineer Aviation Battalion.
7. The third V-mail provided by the applicant is dated, "June 6th (presumably 1945), Regensburg, Germany." His unit is shown as Company A, 819th Engineer Aviation Battalion.
8. The applicant's Honorable Discharge Certificate shows he was assigned to Company C, 819th Engineer Aviation Battalion and separated on 10 October 1945.
CONCLUSIONS:
1. The Board accepts as sufficient evidence the provided V-mails which show the applicant was assigned to Company A, not Company C, 819th Engineer Aviation Battalion as substantiating his contention that he was assigned to Company A, not Company C, 819th Engineer Aviation Battalion.
2. Although only the applicant's Honorable Discharge Certificate is available, that document should be corrected to show his unit as Company A, 819th Engineer Aviation Battalion.
3. In view of the foregoing, the applicant’s records should be corrected as recommended below.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the applicant's Honorable Discharge Certificate be corrected to show his unit as Company A, 819th Engineer Aviation Battalion.

Carmen Duncan | |Member | The Board considered the following evidence: Exhibit A - Application for correction of military records. The applicant, the son of a former service member (FSM), requests, in effect, that his father's unit be corrected on his WD AGO Form 53-55, Enlisted Record and Report of Separation, Honorable Discharge. The applicant's father would not have been issued a "Class 'B' Pass" by any other unit except his own.

Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) provides for award of the Belgian Fourragere. However, regulation requires that a unit must be cited two times in the Orders of the Day of the Belgian Army and that the Belgian Government must publish a special decree in order for a unit to receive award of the Belgian Fourragere. Based on the foregoing, there is insufficient evidence to amend the applicant’s WD AGO Form 53-55 to show award of the Belgian Fourragere or a Citation in the Orders of...

On 29 January 1946, the applicant was assigned as the executive officer of the 1940th Engineer Aviation Utilities Company. As a new issue, he requests that his WD AGO Form 53-55 be corrected to show he was assigned to the 203d Engineer Combat Battalion. He served in the ETO from 21 March 1944 to 10 December 1945. c. Item 6 (Organization) lists his last unit as the 1128th Engineer Combat Group. General orders awarded the 203d Engineer Combat Battalion assault landing credit for the dates which corroborating evidence indicates the applicant served in the unit.

The applicant states, in effect, that the organization shown on his discharge document is incorrect and should be corrected to show that he served with Company B, 299th Engineer Combat Battalion during World War II. The applicant's military service records are not available to the Board for review. Therefore, the Board requests that the CMSD-St. Louis administratively correct the records of the individual concerned to show award of the Arrowhead Device, Army of Occupation Medal with...

The applicant requests correction to his WD AGO Form 53-55 (Enlisted Record and Report of Separation Honorable Discharge) to show award of the Purple Heart and his unit of assignment as Company C, 264th Engineer Battalion. The applicant's WD AGO Form 53-55 shows that no combat wounds were recorded on his separation document. While the applicant did provide two military forms showing he had an authorized absence from Company C, 264th Engineer Battalion in September and October 1945, these...

On 1 January 2005, the applicant's parent unit commander (926th Engineer Battalion) submitted a recommendation that the applicant be awarded the CMB based on the medical support he provided to the 19th Special Forces Group, Operational Detachment Alpha 931, which included his personal presence with the unit while it was engaged in action against enemy forces during the period 9 through 17 May 2004. The evidence of record confirms the applicant served in a medical MOS with a qualifying...

War Department, Report of Death, dated 27 September 1945, confirmed that the FSM's death occurred on 31 July 1942. There is no evidence in the available military service records that shows the FSM was awarded the Purple Heart. As a result, the Board recommends that all Department of the Army records of the individual concerned be corrected by: a. posthumously awarding the FSM the Purple Heart based on having died in captivity while a POW on 31 July 1942; b. posthumously awarding the FSM...

The Board considered the following evidence: Exhibit A - Application for correction of military records. The applicant’s military records are not available to the Board for review. The fact that units of the 310th departed Europe in August 1945, which coincided with the applicant’s departure, and the fact that the 34th Infantry did not depart Europe until November 1945, further supports the conclusion that the 310th Engineer Combat Battalion was likely the unit the applicant returned to...
