APPLICANT REQUESTS: Award of the Korean Service Medal.
APPLICANT STATES: That he served in Korea from 1964 to 1965 and believes that he is entitled to award of the Korean Service Medal.
EVIDENCE OF RECORD: The applicant's military records show:
The applicant enlisted on 4 February 1964 for a period of 3 years. He trained as a supply clerk and was honorably discharged on 23 February 1965 for immediate reenlistment. He reenlisted on 24 February 1965 for a period of 6 years. He served as an ordnance supply specialist in Korea from 8 July 1964 through
23 July 1965 and as a cook in Okinawa from 24 January 1966 through 20 June 1966. On 22 June 1966, the applicant was honorably discharged by reason of hardship.
The applicant’s DD Form 214 (Report of Transfer or Discharge) with an effective date of 22 June 1966 does not show the Korean Service Medal as an authorized award.
There is no evidence in the applicant’s service personnel records which shows that the served in Korea between 27 June 1950 and 17 July 1954.
Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) provides for award of the Korean Service Medal. In pertinent part, the regulation states that the Korean Service Medal is awarded for qualifying service in the theater of operations between
27 June 1950 and 27 July 1954.
DISCUSSION: Considering all the evidence, allegations, and information presented by the applicant, together with the evidence of record, applicable law and regulations, it is concluded:
1. The Board noted the applicant’s contention that he served in Korea from 1964 to 1965.
2. The governing awards regulation states that the Korean Service Medal is awarded for qualifying service in Korea between 27 June 1950 and 27 July 1954.
3. There is no evidence of record, and the applicant has provided no evidence, which shows that he served in Korea between 27 June 1950 and 27 July 1954. Therefore, there is no basis for granting the applicant’s request for award of the Korean Service Medal.
4. In order to justify correction of a military record the applicant must show to the satisfaction of the Board, or it must otherwise satisfactorily appear, that the record is in error or unjust. The applicant has failed to submit evidence that would satisfy this requirement.
5. In view of the foregoing, there is no basis for granting the applicant's request.
DETERMINATION: The applicant has failed to submit sufficient relevant evidence to demonstrate the existence of probable error or injustice.
