         The applicant and counsel if any, did not appear before the Board.

         The Board considered the following evidence:

         Exhibit A - Application for correction of military
records
         Exhibit B - Military Personnel Records (including
         advisory opinion, if any)

FINDINGS :

1. The applicant has exhausted or the Board has waived the requirement for exhaustion of all administrative remedies afforded by existing law or regulations.


2. The applicant requests that his Report of Transfer or Discharge, DD Form 214, be amended to add his flight wings (Aircraft Crewmember Badge).

3. The applicant states that he was attached to a helicopter squadron where he was a machine gunner.

4. The applicant’s military records show that he was inducted into the Army on 7 October 1964. He completed basic combat training and advanced individual training and was awarded military occupational specialty 11B (Light Weapons Infantryman).

5. The applicant arrived in Vietnam and was assigned to the 119th Aviation Company on 10 June 1965 where he performed duties as a gunner. He was reassigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry on 7 September 1965 where he performed duties as a grenadier and assistant gunner.

6. Special Orders 98, Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division dated 19 April 1966 awarded the applicant the Aircraft Crewman (Crewmember) Badge.

7. On 15 June 1966, the applicant was reassigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 25th Infantry Division. He departed Vietnam on or about 28 September 1966 and was released from active duty on 28 September 1966.

8. Department of the Army Pamphlet 672-3 shows that the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry was awarded the Valorous Unit Award for the period January – April 1966, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation for the period January 1966 – August 1968, and the Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal First Class Unit Citation for the period 1 January 1966 – 21 January 1970.

CONCLUSIONS:

1. The evidence of record shows the applicant was awarded the Aircraft Crewmember Badge.

2. The applicant was assigned to a unit during a period of time that unit was awarded the Valorous Unit Award, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, and the Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal First Class Unit Citation. These awards should also be shown on his DD Form 214.

3. In view of the foregoing, the applicant’s records should be corrected as recommended below.


RECOMMENDATION:

That the applicant’s DD Form 214 be amended to add the Aircraft Crewmember Badge, the Valorous Unit Award, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation, and the Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal First Class Unit Citation.
