APPLICANT REQUESTS: That his Enlisted Record and Report of Separation, WD AGO Form 53-55, be amended to add Southern France to item 32, battles and campaigns.
APPLICANT STATES: The applicant makes no additional statement.
EVIDENCE OF RECORD: The applicant's military records were lost or destroyed in the National Personnel Records Center fire in 1973. The information contained herein was obtained from alternate sources.
The applicant was inducted into the Army on 24 May 1943 and entered active service on 7 June 1943. His WD AGO Form 53-55 shows that he arrived in the European Theater of Operations on 13 November 1944 and departed on 18 March 1946. He separated on 31 March 1946.
Army Regulation 600-8-22 prescribes Army policy and criteria concerning individual military awards. Table B-1 shows that the inclusive dates for Southern France campaign credit was 15 August – 14 September 1944.
DISCUSSION: Considering all the evidence, allegations, and information presented by the applicant, together with the evidence of record, applicable law and regulations, it is concluded:
1. The available evidence of record shows that the applicant arrived in the European Theater of Operations on 13 November 1944, too late to have participated in the Southern France campaign.
2. In view of the foregoing, there is no basis for granting the applicant's request.
DETERMINATION: The applicant has failed to submit sufficient relevant evidence to demonstrate the existence of probable error or injustice.
