PROCEEDINGS

         IN THE CASE OF:

         BOARD DATE: 14 August 2001
         DOCKET NUMBER: AR2001056942

I certify that hereinafter is recorded the true and complete record of the proceedings of the Army Board for Correction of Military Records in the case of the above-named individual.

Mr. Carl W. S. Chun Director
Mr. Jessie B. Strickland Analyst

The following members, a quorum, were present:

Mr. Walter T. Morrison Chairperson
Mr. Ronald E. Blakely Member
Mr. Joe R. Schroeder Member

The applicant and counsel if any, did not appear before the Board.

The Board considered the following evidence:

Exhibit A - Application for correction of military
records
Exhibit B - Military Personnel Records (including
         advisory opinion, if any)

FINDINGS :

1. The applicant has exhausted or the Board has waived the requirement for exhaustion of all administrative remedies afforded by existing law or regulations.

2. The applicant requests, in effect, that her report of separation (DD Form 214) be corrected to reflect the correct date of entry on active duty.

3. The applicant states, in effect, that her DD Form 214 dated 15 October 1969 reflects an incorrect date of entry in item 17c of 5 March 1968 and should reflect a date of 8 March 1968.

4. The applicant’s military records show that she initially enlisted on 21 April 1967 for a period of 3 years. On 7 March 1968, she was honorably discharged for the purpose of immediate reenlistment. On 8 March 1968, she reenlisted for a period of 4 years. She continued to serve until she was honorably discharged on 15 October 1969 under the provisions of Army Regulation 635-200, chapter 8, due to marriage. Her DD Form 214 issued to her at the time of separation indicates (in item 17c) that her date of entry was 5 March 1968.

CONCLUSIONS:

1. The evidence of record clearly shows that the applicant entered active duty during the period in question on 8 March 1968. However, it appears that an administrative error resulted in an incorrect entry being placed in item 17c. Accordingly, it would be in the interest of justice to correct this entry and any associated service computations at this time.

2. In view of the foregoing, the applicant’s records should be corrected as recommended below.

RECOMMENDATION: That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by showing that the individual concerned entered active duty on 8 March 1968 and by adjusting any service computations associated with this change.

Item 22a(1) will be completed by entering the total service completed in item 10c (Dated Inducted) or 17c (Date of Entry) and 11d (Effective Date) of the DD Form...

Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). There is no evidence of record which shows the applicant was ordered to active duty on any dates other than 5 May 1965 and 13 May 1968. He was subsequently ordered to active duty for a period of 2 years on 13 May 1968 and served for a little over 16 months, which is properly reflected on his DD Form 214 for the period ending 26 September 1969.

The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Armed Forces of the United States Report of Transfer or Discharge) to show the date he entered active duty as 26 May 1969 instead of 3 June 1968. The evidence of record further shows that the applicant reenlisted on 26 May 1969 and was separated for disability on 12 November 1970. Therefore, the applicant's date of entry on his DD Form 214, dated 12 November 1970, should be corrected to show the date he reenlisted.
