2.  The applicant requests that his records be corrected to show entitlement to award of the Republic of Vietnam (RVN) Gallantry Cross Unit Citation and the Valorous Unit Award.

3.  He was born on 7 January 1950.  On 3 May 1969, the applicant enlisted in the Regular Army for 3 years.  He completed the required training and was awarded military occupational specialty 11B10 (Infantryman).  

4.  The applicant was assigned to Vietnam during the periods of 7 December 1968 to 8 December 1969 and from 3 December 1970 to 28 September 1971, he served in Company E, 20th Infantry Battalion and 23rd and 178th Aviation Battalion in Vietnam.  He served a total of 21 months in Vietnam.

5.  The applicantÂ’s service was continuous through reenlistments and extensions.  The highest grade  he achieved was pay grade E-8.  The applicant retired from military service on 30 September 1991, under Army Regulation 635-200, chapter 12, for length of service.  He served 
22 years, 9 months and 23 days of honorable active service. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal (tenth Award), the Army Commendation Medal (2nd oakleaf cluster), the Army Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal (7th award), the Vietnam Service Medal (with 6 service stars), the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon.  

6.  DA Pamphlet 672-3, Unit Citation and Campaign Participation Credit Register - Vietnam Conflict, indicates, in pertinent part, that personnel of the units in question are entitled to:

	a.  the RVN Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, for the periods 20 December 1967-31 January 1969 and 20 December 1967-28 July 1969, respectively, and

	b.  the Valorous Unit Award, for heroic combat action on or after 3 August 1963.

CONCLUSIONS:

1.  The evidence of record shows that the applicant is entitled to the above listed foreign awards for his service in the RVN and that his records should be corrected accordingly.

2.  In view of the foregoing, it would be appropriate to correct the applicantÂ’s records as shown below.

RECOMMENDATION:

That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by showing his entitlement to the RVN Gallantry Cross Unit Citation and the Valorous Unit Award.
