2. The applicant requests that his WD AGO Form 53-55, Enlisted Record and Report of Separation, be corrected to reflect that he was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal for Germany.
3. He states that he was with the occupation forces in Germany for 11 months during World War II.
4. The applicants WD AGO Form 53-55 does not reflect that he was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal for Germany but does show that he served in the European Theater of Operations for 11 months and 11 days between December 1945 and November 1946.
5. Army Regulation 600-8-22, Military Awards, provides, in pertinent part, that the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) was awarded for service for 30 consecutive days at a normal post of duty while assigned to the Army of Occupation of Germany (exclusive of Berlin) between 9 May 1945 and 5 May 1955. Service between 9 May and 8 November 1945 would be counted only if the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal was awarded for service prior to 9 May 1945.
CONCLUSIONS:
1. The evidence of record shows that the applicant served in the European Theater of Operations for the requisite period of time during World War II and should be awarded the Army of Occupation Medal with Germany clasp.
2. In view of the foregoing, his records should be corrected as recommended below.
RECOMMENDATION:
That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by showing the individual concerned was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal with Germany clasp for service during World War II.
