2. The applicant requests that his date of separation from active duty be corrected to reflect 1959. He notes his DD Form 214 incorrectly recorded the date as 1957.

3. Records indicate he was inducted and entered active duty on 3 January 1957. He was separated at the completion of his service agreement with 2 years and 3 days of active Federal service. His DD Form 214, however, incorrectly records his separation date as 5 January 1957, 2 days after his induction date.

CONCLUSIONS:

1. The evidence confirms he served on active duty for 2 years and 3 days. It is apparent that an error was made on his DD Form 214 when his separation date was recorded as 5 January 1957 instead of 5 January 1959.

2. In view of the foregoing, it would be appropriate to correct the applicant’s records as recommended below.

RECOMMENDATION:

That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by showing that the individual concerned was released from active duty on 5 January 1959 after 2 years and 3 days of active Federal service.

BOARD VOTE:

                       GRANT AS STATED IN RECOMMENDATION

                       GRANT FORMAL HEARING

                       DENY APPLICATION

		        CHAIRPERSON

Evidence of record shows the applicant served on active duty for training from 30 July 1958 through 29 January 1959. However, evidence of record shows that his assignment to the USMAPS was part of his active duty for training. Based on the foregoing, the Board has determined that there is no error or injustice in this case regarding the applicant's active duty service.
