2. The applicant requests correction of his military record to reflect that he was awarded the Army of Occupation of Germany Medal.

3. He states that the above award was omitted from his WD AGO Form 53-55, Report of Separation. In support of his request, he provides a letter from his commanding officer at the time attesting to his presence in Germany.

4. His military records show that he was inducted on 26 January 1942 and served from 30 October 1944 to 17 December 1945 in the European Theater of Operations. He was honorably discharged at demobilization on 4 January 1946.

5. The applicant’s record also shows that he served in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe Campaigns and was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal among other awards.

6. Army Regulation 600-8-22, Military Awards, provides in pertinent part, that the Army of Occupation Medal is awarded for service of 30 consecutive days at a normal post of duty while assigned to any of the following: Occupation of Germany (exclusive of Berlin) between 9 May 1945 and 5 May 1955. (Service between 9 May and 8 November 1945 will be counted only if the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal was awarded for service before 9 May 1945.)

CONCLUSIONS:

1. The evidence of record shows that the applicant was assigned in Germany during the period for which the Army of Occupation Medal was authorized. Furthermore, his presence during that time has also been attested to by his former commanding officer.

2. In view of the foregoing, the applicant’s records should be corrected as recommended below.
