AIR FORCE BOARD FOR CORRECTION OF MILITARY RECORDS
RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS
IN THE MATTER OF:
DOCKET NUMBER: 9 8 - 0 0 1 6 2
COUNSEL: NONE
HEARXNG DESIRED: NO
Applicant requests that he would like to have his discharge
papers reflect that he did serve in the Air Force. Applicant's
submission is at Exhibit A.
The appropriate Air Force office evaluated applicant's request
and provided an advisory opinion to the Board recommending the
application be denied (Exhibit C). The advisory opinion was
forwarded to the applicant for review and response (Exhibit D) .
As of this date, no response has been received by this office.
After careful consideration of applicant's request and the
available evidence of record, we find insufficient evidence of
error or injustice to warrant corrective action. The facts and
opinions stated in the advisory opinion appear to be based on the
evidence of record and have not been rebutted by applicant.
Absent persuasive evidence applicant was denied rights to which
entitled, appropriate regulations were not followed, or
appropriate standards were not applied, we find no basis- to
disturb the existing record.
Accordingly, applicant's request is denied.
The Board staff is directed to inform applicant of this decision.
Applicant should also be informed that this decision is final and
will only be reconsidered upon the presentation of new relevant
evidence which was not reasonably available at the time the
application was filed.
Members of the Board Mrs. Barbara A. Westgate, Mr. Frederick R.
Beaman 111, and Mr. Steven A. Shaw considered this application on
7 July 1 9 9 8 , in accordance with the provisions of Air Force
Instruction 36-2603 and the
governing statute, 10 U.S.C. 1552.

The applicant, while serving in the grade of corporal, was discharged fiom the Army of the
United States on 02 Oct 43 with an honorable discharge.
Reawested Action. The applicant is requesting that his discharge certificate be changed to
indicate that he served in the Air Force.
Basis for Request. Applicant states he served with the Army Air Corps which eventually
became the Air Force in Sep 47. He desires that his discharge papers reflect that he did serve in
the Air Force.
Discussion, Applicant’s master personnel record contains only limited information and a
review of the W.D.A.G,O. Form 55 issued to him on 02 Oct 43 indicates he was honorably
discharged fiom the Army of the United States. We can find no indications that he was a member
of the Army Air Corps and if he was a member of that branch of the Army, his discharge would
show that he was discharged fkom the Army of the United States since the Air Force had not been
formed as a separate branch of service at that time..
Recommendation. Denial. Appknt was issued the correct discharge certificate for his
honorable service with the Army of the United States. He has not filed a timely request.
