Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any). THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal (BSM). 2. The applicant states he was awarded the BSM for meritorious service during the period 12 September 2012 to 27 May 2013, in Permanent Orders Number 182-014, dated 1 July 2013. 3. The applicant provides: * Permanent Orders Number 182-014 * DD Form 214, dated 6 August 2013 * DD Form 214C (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty Continuation Sheet) * Orders 157-0022, dated 6 June 2013 CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. With prior enlisted service in the Regular Army, the applicant enlisted in the Tennessee Army National Guard (TNARNG) on 20 October 1999. He completed training as Military Police. He remained a member of the TNARNG through extensions and reenlistments. 2. Orders 139-082 were published on 18 May 2012, ordering the applicant to active duty in support of Operational Enduring Freedom, on 14 July 2012. 3. On 12 September 2012, the unit to which he was assigned deployed to Afghanistan. He was assigned to 0130 Military Police Company. 4. On 1 July 2013, Permanent Orders Number 182-014 was published awarding the applicant the BSM for exceptionally meritorious achievement as a temporary holding area noncommissioned officer-in-charge for a joint task force in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, for the period 12 September 2012 to 27 May 2013. 5. On 1 June 2013, the applicant departed Afghanistan en-route to the United States. He was released from active duty (REFRAD) on 6 August 2013. His DD Form 214 does not show he was awarded the BSM. 6. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) served as the authority for the preparation of the DD Form 214. The regulation, in effect at that time, provided that the DD Form 214 be prepared to reflect an individual's service, as it exists on the date of REFRAD, separation, retirement, or discharge. It stated for item 13 (Decorations, Medals, Badges, Citations and Campaign Ribbons Awarded or Authorized) to enter all awards, decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbons awarded or authorized for all periods of service. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: 1. The applicant's contentions have been noted. His supporting evidence has been considered. 2. The available evidence shows that the applicant was awarded the BSM in Permanent Orders Number 182-014 on 1 July 2013. His DD Form 214 should be amended to show this award.
