IN THE CASE OF: BOARD DATE: 19 February 2015 DOCKET NUMBER: AR20140008524 THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE: 1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). 2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any). THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show the Meritorious Unit Commendation. 2. The applicant states the award was approved after his discharge. 3. The applicant provides: * Memorandum for Record dated 21 November 2013 * Permanent Order 134-19 dated 14 May 2013 * Memorandum for Record dated 31 January 2011 * DD Form 214 dated 16 May 2011 * DD Form 214C (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (Continuation Sheet)) dated 14 April 2011 CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. With prior enlisted service in the United States Marine Corps, the applicant enlisted in the Florida Army National Guard (FLARNG) on 23 August 2007. He was ordered to active duty for mobilization in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with a reporting date of 1 May 2010. 2. The applicant departed the United States en-route to Bagram, Afghanistan on 29 July 2010. He was assigned to Company D, 3rd Special Forces Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group. 3. The applicant was released from active duty on 16 May 2011 upon his return to the United States. The DD Form 214 he received does not show award of the Meritorious Unit Commendation. 4. The applicant is currently a member of the FLARNG. 5. The applicant provides Permanent Order 134-19 dated 14 May 2013, which awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation to his unit for the period 28 August 2010 to 1 April 2011. 6. Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) states the Meritorious Unit Commendation is awarded to units for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services for at least 6 continuous months during the period of military operations against an armed enemy occurring on or after 1 January 1944. Units based in the continental United States are excluded from this award, as are other units outside the area of operations. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: 1. The applicant's contention has been noted. His supporting evidence has been considered. 2. He provided a copy of Permanent Order 134-19, which supports his contention that the unit to which he was assigned was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation after his release from active duty. Therefore, his DD Form 214 with a separation date of 16 May 2011 should be amended to include this award.
