Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). 2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any). THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show he was awarded the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Medal. 2. The applicant states the NATO Medal was not included on his DD Form 214 because the certificate was not available at the time. 3. The applicant provides a NATO Medal Certificate and DD Form 214 for the period ending 21 November 2012. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. On 11 September 2011, the applicant entered active duty from his Army National Guard (ARNG) unit in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). 2. On 21 November 2012, he was released from active duty. The DD Form 214 he was issued for this period of active duty shows he served in Afghanistan from 9 October 2011 through 23 August 2012. 3. His DD Form 214 for the period ending 21 November 2012 shows he was awarded the: * Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star * Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M" device and 10-Year Bronze Hourglass * Bronze Star Medal * Army Commendation Medal * Army Achievement Medal * Meritorious Unit Commendation * Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (3rd Award) * National Defense Service Medal * Global War on Terrorism Service Medal * Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star * NCO Professional Development Ribbon * Army Service Ribbon * Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award) 4. Army Regulation 600-8-22 (Military Awards) states the NATO Medal is awarded by the Secretary-General of NATO members of the Armed Forces of the United States who participate in designated NATO operations. The Secretary of Defense approved acceptance of the NATO Medal for U.S. military personnel who served in the ISAF in Afghanistan (1 June 2003 to a date to be determined). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: The available evidence supports the applicant's request for correction of his DD Form 214 to show the NATO Medal. The NATO Medal Certificate he provides confirms he received this award for service in support of ISAF operations in Afghanistan. Therefore, he is entitled to correction of his DD Form 214 to show this award.
