IN THE CASE OF: BOARD DATE: 17 July 2012 DOCKET NUMBER: AR20120001415 THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE: 1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). 2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any). THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests, in effect, military occupational specialty (MOS) 11B (Infantryman) be added to his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) with a separation date of 9 September 2011. 2. The applicant states he was involuntarily reclassified around the time frame of May 2009 to MOS 11B during his deployment to Afghanistan. He was put into a rifle company as an automatic rifleman when he returned from deployment in March of 2010. As stated on his Enlisted Record Brief (ERB), his primary MOS on his date of separation was 11B and his secondary MOS was 11C (Infantry Indirect Fire Crewman). 3. The applicant provides: * DD Form 214 * ERB CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. He enlisted in the Regular Army on 30 April 2008. He completed basic combat and advanced individual training and was awarded MOS 11C. 2. His ERB provides the following information. a. He was deployed to Afghanistan from 7 March 2009 to 10 March 2010. b. His primary MOS was 11B and his secondary MOS was 11C as of 26 July 2011. c. He was assigned to: * Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry, as an 11C on 10 January 2009 * Company C, 1st Battalion, 501st Infantry, as an 11B on 28 January 2011 3. There are no orders in his official military personnel file (OMPF) awarding him MOS 11B. 4. On 9 September 2011, he was released from active duty. Item 11 (Primary Specialty) of his DD Form 214 does not show MOS 11B. 5. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) states all MOS titles, years, and months served in for a period of 1 year or more are to be entered in item 11 of the DD Form 214. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: There are no orders in his OMPF showing the exact date he was awarded MOS 11B. The earliest date he was assigned in MOS 11B, as shown on his ERB, was 28 January 2011. The evidence available shows he held MOS 11B for 7 months and 11 days. Because there is insufficient evidence to show he held MOS 11B for at least 1 year, it would not be included on his DD Form 214.
