IN THE CASE OF: BOARD DATE: 17 March 2011 DOCKET NUMBER: AR20100023274 THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE: 1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). 2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any). THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests correction of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to show his foreign service. 2. The applicant states he had foreign service from 7 May 2007 to 3 July 2008. 3. The applicant provides his DD Form 214. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 17 January 2006. He held military occupational specialty 63B (Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic). 2. He was discharged 14 May 2009 under the provisions of Army Regulation 635-200 (Personnel Separations - Active Duty Enlisted Administrative Separations). His DD Form 214 shows he completed 3 years, 3 months, and 28 days of active service. The DD Form 214 he was issued at the time shows in: * item 12f (Foreign Service) the entry "0000 00 00" * item 18 (Remarks) the entry "Service in Iraq 20070507 - 20080703" 3. During the processing of this case, on 9 February 2011, the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) was asked to verify the applicant's service during his period of service. On 10 February 2011, a DFAS representative verified the applicant received hostile fire/imminent danger pay (HF/IDP) and combat zone tax exclusion (CZTE) for service in Kuwait/Iraq from 8 May 2007 through 3 July 2008. 4. Army Regulation 635-5 (Personnel Separations - Separation Documents) prescribes the separation documents prepared for Soldiers upon retirement, discharge, or release from active military service or control of the Army. It establishes standardized policy for the preparation of the DD Form 214. It states that for item 12f, enter the total amount of foreign service completed during the period covered by the DD Form 214. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: The evidence of record confirms the applicant completed 1 year, 1 month, and 27 days of foreign service which is not shown in item 12f of his DD Form 214. Therefore, he is entitled to correction of his DD Form 214 to show this foreign service.
