IN THE CASE OF: BOARD DATE: 25 February 2010 DOCKET NUMBER: AR20090016323 THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE: 1. Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any). 2. Military Personnel Records and advisory opinions (if any). THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant requests, in effect, that item 11 (Primary Specialty) and item 14 (Military Education) of his DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) be corrected. 2. The applicant states, in effect, that his military occupational specialty (MOS) status and training stations are not listed on his DD Form 214. He contends that he completed one-station unit training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and MOS 11B/11C (infantry direct/indirect fire) training at Fort Irwin, California. He indicates that the lack of this information on his DD Form 214 affects his Federal stature in obtaining a Federal civilian position. 3. The applicant provides no documentary evidence in support of his application. CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE: 1. The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 22 October 2007 for a period of 3 years and 18 weeks. 2. A DA Form 4707 (Entrance Physical Standards Board Proceedings), dated 13 December 2007, states the applicant was identified as having a medical condition that existed prior to service (EPTS) on 10 December 2007 while in his 7th week of basic combat training at Fort Benning, Georgia. 3. On 18 March 2008, the applicant was discharged under the provisions of Army Regulation 635-200 (Personnel Separations), paragraph 5-11, for failure to meet medical/physical procurement standards. His character of service was uncharacterized. He had served 4 months and 27 days of creditable active service. 4. Army Regulation 635-5 (Separation Documents) prescribes the separation documents prepared for Soldiers upon retirement, discharge, or release from active military service or control of the Army. It establishes standardized policy for the preparation of the DD Form 214. It states for item 11, enter from the Enlisted Record Brief the titles of all MOS's served for at least 1 year and include for each MOS the number of years and months served. For time determination, 16 days or more count as a month. Do not count basic training and advanced individual training. The regulation also provides that item 14 will list formal in-service (full-time attendance) training courses successfully completed during the period of service covered by title, length in weeks, and year completed. Training courses for combat skills will not be listed. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: 1. The applicant's request to amend item 11 on his DD Form 214 was noted. However, the evidence of record shows he completed 4 months and 27 days of creditable active service. Since the governing regulation states that the titles of all MOS's served for at least 1 year will be entered in item 11 and that basic training and advanced individual training do not count, there is no basis for granting the applicant's request. 2. The applicant's request to amend item 14 of his DD Form 214 was noted. However, the evidence of record shows he was in basic combat training when he was identified as having an EPTS condition. Since training courses for combat skills will not be listed in item 14, there is no basis for granting the applicant's request.
