THE BOARD CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING EVIDENCE:

1.  Application for correction of military records (with supporting documents provided, if any).

THE APPLICANT'S REQUEST, STATEMENT, AND EVIDENCE:

1.  The applicant requests reconsideration of his earlier request for award of the Purple Heart for wounds received during World War II.

2.  The applicant states, in effect, that he and a comrade were assigned as replacement personnel to the Anti-Tank Company, 34th Infantry Regiment, 
24th Infantry Division.  They had not seen each other until their meeting in the applicant's hometown 2 years ago.

3.  The applicant provides a statement from his comrade dated 20 August 2007.

CONSIDERATION OF EVIDENCE:

1.  Incorporated herein by reference are military records which were summarized in the previous consideration of the applicant's case by the Army Board for Correction of Military Records (ABCMR) in Docket Number AR20070000589, on 14 August 2007.

2.  The statement provided by the applicant's comrade is new evidence.

3.  On 20 August 2007, the applicant's comrade stated that because of the amount of time that has past, he cannot recall exact dates.  He further states that he does remember that the applicant reported back to their unit upon being released from the hospital.  To the best of his recollection, the applicant returned to duty shortly before hostilities had ended which was soon after they had begun preparing for the invasion of Japan.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS:

The statement by the applicant's comrade clearly shows that the applicant had been hospitalized and was returned to duty.  However, it does not provide any details showing how the applicant became injured or wounded, or if his injuries or wounds were the result of enemy action.   Therefore, the applicant's request should be denied.
