2. The applicant requests correction of his military records to show that he enlisted for a term of 5 years vice 8 years. 3. The applicant enlisted in the Regular Army on 27 August 1997 for 8 years. Additional documents signed by the applicant and the enlistment counselor indicate enlistment for 5 years. 4. In an advisory opinion to the Board, the Total Army Personnel Command (PERSCOM), advised in effect, that the applicant’s DD Form 4/1 incorrectly shows enlistment for 8 years. All related documents correctly show enlistment for 5 years. PERSCOM recommended approval of the applicant’s request. CONCLUSIONS: 1. Based on the evidence of record, it appears that it was the applicant’s intent to enlist in the Regular Army for a period of 5 years. However, an error was made at the time of his enlistment. 2. In view of the foregoing, it would be appropriate and just to correct the applicant’s records as recommended below. RECOMMENDATION: That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by amending the DD Form 4/1 to show that the individual concerned enlisted for 5 years on 27 August 1997.
