2. The applicant requests that his DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge, be corrected to show that he was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation (PUC). 3. He states that he was assigned to a unit in Southwest Asia when it received the PUC but he was not credited with the award on his separation document. 4. The applicant’s military record shows that he was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment (HHD), 180th Transportation Battalion from August 1990 through January 1993. During the period October 1990 through June 1991 the unit, and the applicant, served in Saudi Arabia in support of Operation Desert Storm/Shield. 5. Department of the Army listing of lineage and honors shows that HHD 180th Transportation Battalion was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation (MUC) for its service in Southwest Asia. 6. Army Regulation 600-8-22, Military Awards, provides in pertinent part, that the MUC is awarded to units for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service for at least 6 continuous months during the period of military operations against an armed enemy occurring on or after 1 January 1944. CONCLUSIONS: 1. The applicant was assigned HHD, 180th Transportation Battalion at the time it was awarded a unit level commendation medal. However, the award was the MUC not the PUC as he contends. 2. The applicant’s DD Form 214 should be corrected to show that he was awarded the MUC. 3. In view of the foregoing, it would be appropriate to correct the applicant’s record as recommended below. RECOMMENDATION: 1. That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by showing that the individual concerned was awarded the MUC. 2. That so much of the application as is in excess of the foregoing be denied. BOARD VOTE: GRANT AS STATED IN RECOMMENDATION GRANT FORMAL HEARING DENY APPLICATION CHAIRPERSON
