2. The applicant requests that he be awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) for his service in Vietnam. 3. He states that at the time of his reenlistment his DD Form 214, Report of Separation, should have reflected that he had been awarded the CIB but it did not. He asserts that he served as a combat infantryman with the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam in 1970. 4. The applicant’s DD Form 214 does not reflect that he was awarded the CIB. His enlisted qualification record, however, shows that he was awarded the CIB by General Order 4183, Headquarters 1st Cavalry Division dated 19 March 1970. CONCLUSIONS: 1. The evidence of record shows that applicant was awarded the CIB during his Vietnam service and apparently through an administrative error it was not recorded on his DD Form 214. 2. In view of the foregoing, it would be appropriate to correct the applicant’s records as recommended below. RECOMMENDATION: That all of the Department of the Army records related to this case be corrected by showing that the individual concerned was awarded the CIB for service in Vietnam in 1970.
